It is during the early 1970s when American teen Christopher Marcos is falsely accused of drug running and is sent to the infamous Tijuana Jail. There he has an altercation with a sadistic guard and is sent to Mexico’s Federal island prison Islas Tres Maris. A prison located 60 miles to sea south west of Mazatlan. It is told that no one has ever escaped, never making it past the marauding sharks or being discovered by the Federales on the mainland.

The moment Christopher arrives in shackles on Islas Tres Marias he meets the warden El Jefe and his constant companion, the bullwhip. Soon he is integrated into the prison community and he befriends Checo the alpha inmate and vital ally. Using his martial arts skill along with his love of cooking, Christopher collects a vital key if he is ever to escape….pesos, money.

One day while working near the island landing he meets Juanita the daughter of a visiting boat captain. She is also the apprentice to Mazatlan’s la Curandera, mystical healer. As their romance blooms the urge to escape is heightened. They plot. Hurricane Olivia looms.

Not a bad story, I would not call this a romantic tale by any means. This is a story of an eighteen year old young man who crosses the US Mexican border to have his car reupholstered and falls victim to a setup where his car is stolen and he ends up accused of drug trafficking, sent to a federal prison island with no charges ever filed and no paperwork. The story has an interesting plot, Christopher ends up on the island, and we read of his life over some period of time as he fits in with prison slave labor life ad plans an escape.

The romantic tale part comes in the form of Juanita, daughter of a boat owner who brings 'putas' (prostitutes) to the island for use of prison guards and some of the prisoners who are able to afford it. Christopher meets and forms a relationship with Juanita resulting in their planning to marry if he can escape from the island and return home to the US.

If you can ignore all the errors, the story is not bad. For this many 5 star reviews, clearly many readers are totally undiscerning or have no real knowledge of English. Frequent misuse of a possessive apostrophe is an irritation. Frequent simple errors such as misplaced commas, words missing, or incorrect word usage simply makes it clear that no professional editing was done - or the editor was somebody who was not an English major, not a professional editor or publisher, or not at all discerning.

Think I'm exaggerating? Here's a sample from where I became irritated enough to start marking. Note for the authors, if you're smart, you'll take this and at least correct these errors, if not go back and read from the beginning and fix all the many other errors. I know, errors happen to all of us, non are perfect, but this many? Really?

If you don't see the errors in all these, you are clearly not an English major, likely not even an English minor, and absolutely not discerning.

REDEMPTION'S WARRIOR edition by Jennifer Morse William Mortimer Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Love the characters and the magic. I felt the magic was real. The suspense was really great. Thanks a lots.
Thought provoking and enjoyable. Hope to see more work by this duo. The symbolism was an added facet that made this story different and added depth.
I found the story well written with good character development. It grabbed me from the beginning and keep my interest throughout all the pages. The environment makes it believable even though it is a work of fiction.
I finished this book over a weekend and had such a great time reading it!! Maybe timing is everything, but I needed a book like this one, something a little unexpected and different, that weekend. I enjoyed it very much.
This is a story of a pretty exaggerated self development following principles of several different religions. The exaggeration of being able to see people's spirit guides, auras etc is nice although unrealistic but then I suppose fantasy is not meant to be like reality.
Finding someone to love in prison is also unrealistic.
It's a pleasant book but badly needs to be proof read.
Set up by a crooked mechanic, Christopher Marcos is accused of smuggling drugs and consigned to Mexico’s island prison, Tres Marias. Even though imprisoned, he’s determined to gain his freedom. That determination is redoubled when he meets Juanita, the daughter of a ship’s captain providing girls for the entertainment of the exiles on Tres Marias. Drawn together by spirits that Christopher barely understands, these two young lovers plot his escape.
On the dawn of his escape, a hurricane strikes, and he believes that Juanita is lost at sea. Bereft, he nonetheless continues his plan to get away from the isolated island.
Redemption’s Warrior by Jennifer Morse is a profound tale of spiritual belief and young love, and how it prevails despite the efforts of those around them to prevent it. The author takes readers deep inside the spirit world in a story that is combines elements of the real effortlessly with the metaphysical. While it gets off to a weak start, providing information that would be better revealed later in the story, and ends with no explanation of how Juanita survived the hurricane, it is nonetheless a compelling story that is very enjoyable.
REDEMPTION'S WARRIOR by Jennifer Morse and William Mortimer
Have read other works by Jennifer and enjoyed them and this one along with her husband sounded like a good read also.
Found the trip to Mexico exciting as I've never visited there and it's very detailed descriptions bring a picture of the area in my mind.
Starts out with Christopher and on his 18th birthday as he's saved his money he heads to Mexico to get a special interior for his muscle car.
He runs into problems, so many that he ends up in a prison, on an island. He meets many along the way and I enjoyed the travel and story behind it all
and how it all comes full circle. Enjoyed the references to the animals and auras. Just when he's about to become free a special friend goes missing...
Enjoyed the martial arts and mystic exchanges. He watches man give up hope to ever having a real life again and now he really has nothng to live for....
